Our New Swing
It wasn’t quite as big a decision as the one we made to have the baby in the first place but we really did our homework before we finally made a decision on what swing to buy. And trust me – this was no easy task. There are SO many to choose from, so many different brands, so many different combinations of features…
In other words, it was quite unlike any purchase we had ever made before.
After doing some research and talking to friends, we made a checklist of the things we were looking for: a comfy, soft, ergonomic seat for lots of support; at least a three-point safety harness and something from a major company well-recognized in the baby industry. We also were interested in music and other effects.
We wanted a swing that would be easy to use and serve more than one purpose. And one that would last!
Finally, after testing a bunch of different swings at a couple of stores, we went online and ordered the DuetSoothe Swing and Rocker by Graco. It came very well-packed and was extremely easy to set up. The instructions were really clear. That’s a refreshing change from other instruction manuals we’ve struggled with.
After having the swing in our home for a couple of weeks now, I can say that it has been a godsend for our little Sarah. She isn’t as fussy as a lot of babies (my mom says I was much worse!) but she does have her moments. I try my best to calm her by cradling her in my arms but it doesn’t always work and I can’t do anything else around the house when she’s in my arms.
To put it simply, Sarah just loves her DuetSoothe! I really like the fact that the swing seat also acts as a rocker. And she giggles at the vibrator! Sometimes she likes the side-to-side motion and other times she prefers moving back and forth. I’m glad every day that Graco gave us that choice.
Basically, we like the swing because it has everything a parent could want. It really doesn’t lack a single feature of any of the other ones we looked at.
Our little girl absolutely adores the hanging toys. It also plays music and has sounds and a couple of the melodies almost always put Sarah to sleep.
The swing has six speeds. For us, the middle speed seems to be the best.
There are other things we like about it as well…
It works if you just plug it into a regular wall outlet but it also operates on batteries. We’ve taken it outside a couple of times when the weather was nice, and that battery power really came in handy.
Also, Graco designed the DuetSoothe to be safe and comfortable for babies weighing up to 30 pounds, which is heavier than some of the other ones we looked at. That means that our little Sarah can “grow” with her swing.
The same goes for the newborn insert that was included. When she outgrows that, we will simply remove it.
I really think that if you’re in the market for a swing, you need to look at this one carefully.
I know that there are smaller ones out there. And there are cheaper ones, too, but remember the old saying – you get what you pay for. I wouldn’t want to pinch pennies on something so important for our baby.
Good luck in your swing search, and I hope you end up as happy with your purchase as we are.
